My name is Gerardo Lamastra;
whether you arrived here with a specific
purpose or just by chance, may you be welcome in peace....
This is a brief history of my life:
I was born in Potenza, November 23rd 1971.
I studied Computer Engineering
at Pisa University.
While there, I also had the best time of my life, meeting nice people,
drinking wine (and other stuff...) and sharing ideas during dinners.
In particular, with two of them,
Peppe (Giuseppe Lipari)
and Tonino (Antonino Casile),
we started a ever lasting working team on our first
real software project:
The Safeline IFR flight simulator!
I graduated in 1996 with a thesis on the design and
development of a real-time kernel running on the x86 32 bit CPUs.
I started my Ph.D.
in 1997 at ReTiS Lab,
of Scuola Superiore di Studi e
Perfezionamento S.Anna; my research was focused on kernel support
for multimedia applications. After a small interlude, for
accomplishing my social service, first at State Library in Potenza
and then at Pisa University library, and some activity as system
manager, I spent nine months at
University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill as research scholar at
DiRT. I had a really nice
time there, continuing my Operating System Research and discovering
what does mean to live in the US.
After finishing the Ph.D. I started to work for
CSELT, which later changed its name
into Telecom Italia Lab.
This was formerly the research facility of Telecom Italia, the national
telecommunication provider of Italy. Now it aims to be the "
Innovation Company". My current activity focuses on
Internet Security, Intrusion Detection Systems and Computer
Forensic Analysis.
If you are interested in the company galore, check out the
